"Cannot subtract spaces - unbound zones"

Hi all,

When I try to subtract a smaller zone from a larger zone, I get the following error: "Cannot subtract spaces - unbound zones".

Anyone know what this means and how to fix it?

I don't know that error, if you select the spaces in the wrong order (i.e. select the smaller inner space and then try to subtract the outer space) you get an error "Cannot subtract spaces - volume mismatch". If that's the error then you just need to select the outer space and choose to subtract the smaller space.

ah I've got it, the space you are subtracting has to be entirely contained within the main volume and have at least 1 shared surface. If you have the two spaces intersecting so that part of the space you try to subtract is outside the main volume and part is inside then you will see the error "Cannot subtract spaces - unbounded zones".

These are the rules of the Subtract I'm afraid so if that's what you want to do you should first Trim the volume you want to subtract so that you are only left trying to subtract the part inside the main volume. Then it will work.
(Select the smaller space, click Connect Spaces button, then select the larger volume and click the Trim button to do this automatically)

These error messages could be a lot more helpful really couldn't they!

Old Skool - just divide the space with the "Edit Space" tool.
