I am curious to know how people are handling internal loads profiles (or "schedules") during heating/cooling loads calculations and auto-sizing features of the software.
Internal load schedules (lighting, people, equipment, etc.) usually represent the "typical" use for annual energy calculations which diversifies the load throughout the day and week, while equipment is actually sized for the "design day" condition where loads are at a worst case scenario. I do realize that designers (at least in the US) are often TOO conservative when sizing equipment, but you would still want to be able to handle an event where a conference room is fully occupied with all lights and equipment on at the design cooling condition, or a morning where nobody shows up and internal loads are zero at the design heating condition.
Since ApHVAC lets you auto-size equipment based on calculated loads, and then run an annual energy simulation, you would essentially want to use different profiles for heating calcs, cooling calcs, and then energy simulations. I have been using the PRM Navigator quite a bit and the workflow does not allow separate calculation of heating and cooling loads - just the selection of which day of the week the "design day" is for each, which isn't a complete solution.
Is anybody else experiencing difficulty here? Any solutions you'd care to share?
