Modelling of a Library/Archive

Post by niallb »

Hi,

I'm trying to model a historic library building containing approximately 40 large book stacks. I have data that I obtained on site and I am trying to match up the modelled data with the actual data. I've cross checked the external envelope properties and they seem to be what would be expected (thick walls, thermal mass) however the building is behaving somewhat like a lightweight structure due to inaccurate analysis of the books stacks which I believe from past analysis contain some thermal mass.

Has anyone had to model a book stack before and if so what is the best way to do it? I've inserted it as a partition (density = 350kg/m3,thermal conductivity = 0.05 and specific heat capacity = 1400) but it's not even registering on the mass calculation. Any advice/help on this would be great as I really am desperate to get it finished at this stage.

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

Remember there is the Furniture Mass Factor input for a room as well but I've seen the general guidance in the past that you should zone the space and add partitions in to represent bookshelves for this kind of study so what you are doing sounds correct.

Make sure you don't have full holes in the partitions and ensure you are correctly assigning the constructions and you should certainly see some impact form them
