Auto-create thermal templates with gains, air ex

Post by bbrannon4 »

Right now it's fairly tedious to create a set of thermal templates (outside of the PRM) with internal gains and air exchanges. I have to first create all the templates. Then I have to go into one random template to create all the gains and air exchanges, which is fairly tedious because that dialog isn't the greatest to work with. I on't think I would request that the general process be changes, because I like that the templates are flexible with that sort of gains you can add (for example I can add a general W/area plus add a few specific pieces of equipment.

However, it would be great if there was a button or navigator that made it easy to add and populate a template. At the minimum I'm envisioning a button to 'Create Thermal Template', which would then ask me for a name, and to check off (or give quantities) for all the related gains or air exchanges I might want. So for example I might name it 'Large Conference Room' and then specify I want a people gain, a lighting gain, an equipment gain, and an infiltration. Then the template would be created, and all of those gains would be created with a name that makes sense (like 'Large Conference Room - Lighting') and assign them all to the template. Once that structure has been created, it's really easy to use the tabular navigators to edit all the values (though might as well stick in a navigator line explaining that).

This bring up something I've mentioned before: the current list for internal gain types is way too long. Now that we have meters, a user can organize things how they like, otherwise, there really isn't a reason to have fluorescent lights and tungsten lights, especially when LED isn't even an option. Same with equipment. I'd recommend just shortening the list down to people, lighting, and equipment. The flexibility I mentioned above means I can easily make multiple lighting gains for general, task, or display, and multiple equipment gains for misc, process, data center, etc, but as it is right now it's execivly complicated and actually causing issues. There was a weird bug where some 'equipment' gains were being converted to 'computer' gains, and so users were confused that the equipment was missing, and ended up doubling the gains.
