Parallel Process Loads

Post by bbrannon4 »

It would be great if the ASHRAE loads simulation could be split up and run in parallel to help speed it up. I know it's much faster in comparison to an annual simulation, but loads are typically run with a much smaller timestep, and I often have to run them several times for a project. On large projects, this can take some time. Since the simulations are individual design days anyway, could it just be split up into one simulation per month, simulated in parallel in the Tasks dialog, and then combined back together?

I have submitted this request for consideration, my only doubt is if the monthly cooling loads feed into each where e.g. May provides the initial conditions for June etc? we can look into it anyway

It shouldn't be doing that though, right? Aren't each of the design days considered independent of each other, and so should begin with the same initial conditions (repeating the day as necessary initially)? Somewhat unrelated but I'll just stick it here: it would be handy if there was an option to initialize the simulations (and design runs) with the temperature/humidity of the first hour of the weather file, rather than a default user entered value.

Sort of related: it would also be nice if the sizing runs, whether initiated from apache, apacheHVAC, or the PRM navigator, would all be run in the new simulation manager and not the legacy mode (the way it is currently working from the navigator).
