ModelIT Performance

Post by daki »

Is there a way to speed up drawing in ModelIT? Right now, it takes me 3 seconds to draw a window, hole or a door and it takes IES 10.5 seconds to update the browser and actually put it in the model, so basically 75-80% of time used for drawing is wasted by the software.

Go the the navigators, and click the drop down to see the list of all navigators. Find the navigator for "Geometry Tools". Select it, scroll to the bottom of the navigator, and click "Enable sparse mode". Sparse mode will stop the browser from automatically refreshing when drawing, so it will speed up the process. I believe disabling auto-save in preferences also speeds up model creation, but be sure to save after every action when doing this.

Thanks, I've run into an older post since and turning off the UNDO (undo=off) feature and model browser refresh (mb=off) does the trick. It's astounding how much faster is the drawing process, with these two options turned off.

I'd be curious to hear if someone from IES could confirm, but my understanding was that sparse mode effectively did what you did manually in your settings, so maybe they are two ways of getting the same result.
