Freecooling in ApacheHVAC

Works in conjunction with ApacheSim to provide effective modelling of conventional/advanced HVAC systems, operation and control.

Freecooling in ApacheHVAC

Post by David_S »

Hi All,

I would like to model an air-cooled compact chiller with free-cooling. I am aware of the freecooling feature in ApacheSim, but could't find any relevant info for ApacheHVAC (nor figure out how this can be done).

Or am I overlooking an elephant in the room? :) .. Surely there must be a way this can be done when modeling at a component level.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks!

Hi David,

You can operate the free cooling at the air side network simply defining the dependent controllers between cooling coil and outside air supply branch.
In the independent controller sensor then, you can define the formula profile for your setpoint variation to control operating of your cooling coil (defined with hot water loop- air cooled chiller) and activating the outside air supply in a way that when room air temperature is greater than outside air temp variable then your air cooled chiller is off and outside airflow will be supplied to the spaces and vice versa. You can generate the formula profiles that way and set that to midband variation profile to that controller.

Rishikesh
