Custom Colors for Variable Color Scale

Post by davissw »

Hi all,

Using IESVE 2019. I want to show the indoor air temperature of a large multi-room building in Model Viewer II to graphically display which units are overheating. Using the variable color scale, I seem to be stuck using a scale of blue to red. Ideally, I'd like to input a specific range of colors that I define. For example

Grey = t<72
Yellow =72<t<74
Orange = 74<t<76
Red = 76+<t

This is purely for presentation but I think important. Especially the blue color is really confusing as it is easily interpreted as a cold room.

Is there a way to do this?

Hi davissw,

There's no way to do what you've specifically asked for but by changing the shading limits applied and number of colours used you can get close.

To change the shading limits applied:
- Turn on the Details section in the Selected Variables List.
- You can then set the Lower and Upper limits for each variable.

To change the number of colours used:
- Click the Options button in the Selected Variables List.
- Go to the Variable Colour Scale tab in the dialog and the Number of Units used in the Colour Scale.

Check-out the VistaPro & MV2 manuals for more details.

I hope this helps.

Hi John,

I appreciate your response. This is something that would be very helpful in future versions to be able to do.

On my project, I ended up compiling my results, then creating a separate file to go back into modelit and assigning each room a specific color so I could generate the graphic I wanted. A big pain - considering I had near 150 rooms. Worth it in the end to have something to look at with the client, but if this could be done in VistaPro, that would be so much better.
