Thermal Storage

Post by rkopko »

Is there a way to model ice or chilled water storage at this time?

Are you wanting to model the energy used to cool ice or the cooling caused by the ice etc?

I am looking to model a ice storage system for peak load reduction. So we would be creating ice in the evening and then utilizing the ice storage during the day to reduce the chiller cooling load.

Correct me if I am wrong, IES does not model the phase change from liquid to solid enthalpies etc and apply them to temperature reduction and or freezing of a liquid into a solid.

If I am correct I dont think that this will be easily modeled in IES, Unless you ignore the phase change energy etc and just set a small room in a room to be modelled as water or a similar material to ice etc and simulate with that heated and cooled to -10 etc..

Good Luck
