Learning IES

Hi,

I have downloaded the trial version of IESVE. I am looking for the best tutorials to learn the program as quick as possible.

From what I can tell there are a few options:

There are the user guides. I am sure that these will have all the information I need. Trawling through these may take a while. But these may be the best resource. Is that true?


There are also a list of 5 pdf tutorials on ModelIT listed on viewtopic.php?f=173&t=1516 (listed as Version 5.9)

There are also a similar tutorial listed as Version 5.8

Then there is another one called Virtual Environment <VE> Module Tutorial that can be found here: http://www.iesve.com/content/mediaasset ... torial.pdf
The problem with this one is that it references a model (tutorial.mit) that supposedly comes with the model, but as far as I can tell doesn't exist.

The other option I have is to learn by using the SketchUp plugin. I already know how to use SkretchUp and there are a fair few videos on google relating to the plugin. Would it be best for me to go through these videos?

For people that have already gone through this process can you please tell me which of these items will have me using IES the quickest.

PS I can't afford and don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for the tutorials IES offers

We offer different packages to suit different user levels and budgets. If you are a commercial user and serious about using VE for any kind of analysis then it might be worthwhile contacting training@iesve.com to see what we can offer you.

Anyway the best tutorial we have at present would be the one linked from the Trial page of our website (you can get the model there too). Click on the Tutorial tab to download:

We're working on some new tutorial content at the moment that looks like it will be really helpful for all users, I've seen some drafts and when it is online I think it will be exactly what you are looking for as it will take you through the different parts of the VE from model creation, data setup to analysis.

I've said previously but will reiterate, if you are a new user take a look at the VE Navigators. They simplify the process of building, assigning and analysing models. If you are on a trial/academic licence you have everything but even if you have purchased a few applications then you will have the relevant navigators so everyone should have some access to these and they can take a lot of the pain out of finding your way around VE.

but I will start the one you've mentioned.

I've just had a look at the navigators. I take it these are like a checklist to guide you as you complete each phase of the model. Is that right?

Hi, I have to start a model from scratch. I need to model an existing building and I have the plans available in autocad. What is the best way to learn while I use ModelIT? Are there any video tutorials?
