Group Type for Roof Space

Post by Jack Garlick »

Hi

I am importing a model with the SketchUp Plugin. The I have roof spaces which I do not want to model as 'whole rooms'. The only other options are excluded, shade, room surfaces, door and window. None of these seem appropriate. What should I choose?

Do I have to select the whole room group type and then de-activate them in VE? Thats the only solution I can think of, but I'm not sure if this is right.

Cheers,

Jack

Well I I have looked at the IES models in the SketchUp 3D warehouse and for all those that have volumes in the roof space this space has been set to shade. So I assume that is what I have to do. Is that right?

These models have very thin roof volumes though. If I had a roof with a very large unconditioned space would I still just model it as shade? I would have thought that the size and shape of this volume could in some cases have a significant effect.

Hi Jack,

In the plug-in "room" means it will come through to VE as a room, after import you then move into the applicable regulation and assign thermal properties based on the function of the room in your model.

For example there are Room Types that can be applied in UK regs Compliance to denote the roof void or in the PRM workflow there are space type options for unconditioned spaces.

Essentially import it in as rooms then you can set the rooms to draw no power and have no internal gains ie NCM Unheated space (Name of a template) or Void.

If you import it as a shade then IES will put the roof constructions on your flat ceiling...

Hope this helps
