Radiance error -- can't detect glare
Radiance error -- can't detect glare
I'm using IES for an MSc studio project which includes daylight analysis. I was initially thrilled to see that all the simulations in Radiance indicated "There are no sources of glare", but then I realized it was nearly impossible since the windows were very tall and I was simulating eye positions that basically stared right at the window. So, I passed the model to run on someone else's laptop and all the glare came popping out! What can I do to fix this? Is it an installation error or something? SO desperate.... help! (Am considering reformatting my laptop if need be..... wish I could fix IES without doing that though....)
Re: Radiance error -- can't detect glare
Don't reformat your laptop, I'm sure that's not necessary. I believe there is an issue related to this in VE 2012 Feature Pack 2 so the difference may be you are running this version and your colleague is not.
Easy way to check:
Help >> Troubleshooting >> Click Install History button
If internal version number is 2012.0.2.0 then you have the latest FP2
If it is less most likely to be 2012.0.1.3 then that's Feature Pack 1.
There is a workaround the Support team can provide to users who hit this issue, it's not on the Knowledge Base just yet but will be shortly. In the meantime I'll send you a Direct Message with the guidance.

Re: Radiance error -- can't detect glare
I am experiencing the exact same issue with no sources of glare being detected.
I am using feature pack 2, version 6.4.0.12 Internal Version Number: 2012.0.2.0
I would be very grateful if you could provide guidance for this issue,
Best regards,
Francis

Re: Radiance error -- can't detect glare
Really, really does sound like user error (forgive me here).
Are you totally sure you are facing the right direction in the image and have the right sky selected?
please don't take offence - I'm fkn fed up with trying to help people who end up going on the attack in this and many other forums.

Phil did this workaround ever go up on the Knowledge Base ??
Re: Radiance error -- can't detect glare
Hi
I'm just working through the VE2013 radiance tutorial and I'm getting the same error. I've checked and rechecked every step but the error is repeated each time I run the simulation. I can't find anything relating to this on the Knowledge Base. Could someone let me know if this problem has been resolved?
Many thanks
Andy

Re: Radiance error -- can't detect glare
It involves registry editing and I'm not happy putting it online (sorry) but will DM you both the PDF.
This will be fixed fully and finally in VE 2013 Feature Pack 1 which is due to be released this week so you might want to hold off for that
(aside: it was fixed for most users in the VE 2013 hotfix but for some cases this didn't fully work so we have implemented a full solution in this Feature pack 2013.1.0.0)
