Error Opening Weather File
Error Opening Weather File
I have created a new simuatlion and i want to begin simulating the buidling. In APLocate the design weather shows the correct information but when i run apachesim a error messages appears :" error opening weather file" any ideas why i can not open the file to run the simulation?
Re: Error Opening Weather File
Hi,
First thing that springs to mind is to make sure you don't have a second instance of <VE> open at the time with the weather file loaded e.g. running another sim on same weather file, or viewing the weather file in Vista as this effectively locks the weather file so it can't be accessed by the 2nd simulation. Have seen that in the past and sometimes it's not clear what has caused the error.
If that's not the problem then it may be an issue with the weather file not being found. Make sure on the Simulation Weather Data tab of APLocate that the fwt (or other) file is displayed in the ApacheSim section. Also make sure the fwt file is in your shared content >> weather folder (this is most likely installed on the machine at C:\Program Files\IES\Shared Content\Weather).
Hope this helps you track down the cause of the problem.

Re: Error Opening Weather File
in Aplocate under simulation weather data, no file is selected. nor do i have the weather file in the shared content file. how do i go about obtaining the files
Re: Error Opening Weather File
ok,
Still not quite sure from your brief note what the exact problem is here but here are a few options:
1. If you have no fwt files in your shared content\weather folder then I would suggest you need to reinstall Shared Content and make sure you select options to install the weather files. You can download it again if you need it from the Download Centre on the Support section of our website.
2. If you do have some fwt files in shared content\weather but don't have the particular weather file for this project (perhaps you were given the project by a colleague who has the file?) then you just need to get a copy of the fwt weather file required by the project and save this into your shared content\weather folder.
Note: If we are discussing the CIBSE weather files for UK Compliance simulations here then copying the files without purchasing them would be illegal (just want to add that at this stage).
3. If the fwt file exists in your shared content\weather folder but can not be selected in <VE> APLocate, then the <VE> is not finding your shared content folder. In Help >> Troubleshooting you can use the Set Shared Content Folder tool to fix this.
Hopefully this covers it and you can proceed with the simulation now?
