simualte naturally ventilated

Post by ew0187 »

i need to find temperatures within a building only using natural ventilation. i set all my schedules for plant to off and edited openings in MacroFlo based on their use. how do i go about obtaining temperature and airflow measurements throughout the building?

Hi,

Select all the rooms in the building you are interested in and tick the Combine rooms checkbox then you will see any room variables you view display an average result for all of the rooms selected - this should give the results in the way you require?

At room level variables you will find options to view air temperature and MacroFlo ventilation flow rates

If I did as you just described above and the rates I got where too large, something like 500l/s when it should have been about 9l/s what can be the possible reason please?

Hi Yanica

When using macroflo all you are doing is telling IES that a certain sized hole has appeared in your window/door. The amount of air that goes through it is dependent upon the hole size and what the wind is doing at any given moment.

You cannot control the amount of air that comes into a room when you open a window and so saying it should be 9l/s doesn't really make much sense.

You could reduce the % opening and iterate the model until you see results getting close to what you want but I am not sure what that would really tell you.

If you want a controlled 9l/s in your model then enter it via the air exchanges tab.
