A basic question regarding the assignment of Apache profiles to a template...

How can I assign an Apache profile to (for example) a specific heating load created in the building template manager?

The difficulty I have is that I have created 10 or so profiles in Apache profiles and am not sure how to apply each one to a certain element/variable within my building/heating system. I have managed to assign one of the profiles to the door openings using Macroflo, however I’m not sure how to assign different profiles created in apache pro to the different variables within the building template, eg. Occupancy timings, vehicle timings, etc. which all ought to have different profiles. The building template manager in apache gives the total values of internal heat gains however does not allow for variances with time due to the fact that it seems as if profiles cannot be applied. The problem is that it seems as if all Apache profiles are by default applied to all building templates.

The specific problem that I have is that there is an internal gain that fluctuates with time. In the building template manager I have calculated the total gain, however the gain itself will vary from this maximum value. I have already created a profile to match the variation, but how do I link the two together, profile with template?

I would hope that most people on the forum here could help you out with this but I'll use the example of applying a profile to gains as this seems quite straightforward to explain/appreciate.

First make sure the profiles you have defined are Modulating profiles (e.g. you might have a daily profile that takes the value 0 from midnight until 9, 1 from 9 - 12, 0.5 from 12 - 2, 1 from 2 - 5, 0 from 5 - midnight). You'll have to define a weekly profile that references this daily profile.
Next create a new Internal gain of any type (for this example we'll make it Occupancy/People)
Define the Max gains of the people (the gain at maximum occupancy)
Then you apply the profile by changing the Variation profile (on the right hand side of the Internal gains dialog), expand the dropdown and then select your new modulating profile.

Now when you run a simulation and check the variation of People Gain (this is a room variable in Vista) over any day you will see that the gain takes the maximum value from 9 - 12, half the max gain from 12 - 2, the max value from 2 - 5 and there is no gain the rest of the time.

This set of steps is fairly representative of the procedure to apply a profile/schedule to any other input on thermal templates. If you are a UK Compliance user (apache method, not SBEM) then you could take a look at the NCM templates for an example of standard set up. All you would need to do is create a project with a few rooms, change to <VE> Compliance Part L2 Apache method and assign Building type and room activities, then the NCM templates will be automatically assigned to the rooms and you can look at how these are defined.

I had a feeling that would have been the problem but thought I'd give the full process anyway in case it was useful. You'll find most of these inputs for profiles will look for weekly or annual profiles to be defined.

I'm interested to assign NCM profiles for internal gain variations in BTM, I have tried all filter options. However, I'm unsuccessful so far. Your suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi Ashok,

Yes you may still do this but software won't let you assign the NCM data directly (for reasons that it is automatically managed by VE so we couldn't guarantee your own model wouldn't be changed).

Instead what to do is choose the NCM Activity types you are interested in in the VE Compliance model and then in ApPro you will find the NCM profiles are available for you to make copies of, the copied data is then available for you to assign in the model itself
