What does "Openings in space [.....] now intersect" mean?

I am trying to edit vertices to bring two spaces together that resolutely refuse to come together with a "Rebuild" command - they are 0.006 m apart - and my edits are rejected with this message. The adjacency that i am trying to edit has no openings in it......

This message is displayed erroneously in <VE> 6.1, we're in the final stages of testing <VE> 6.1.0.1 hotfix which will include a fix i expect will correct this issue for you.

Check our website next week when I expect this hotfix patch will be available.
