Hi, I am new here, hope someone can help on this...

I just started to build thick wall module using IES plug-in, however, my model had the atrium which higher than the rest of the building, I try to model atruim seperately, in sketchup, the room could be identified, but in IES pro, only atrium is treated as ROOM, the rest of the building is then become shading surfaces.....

I then tried to use thick wall for the building, and use push/pull to create atrium as single wall block, seems it is not working in IES either...

There should be a simple way to do this when building model become very complex, right? hope i made the problem clear enough.... Thank you in advance.

The rooms would come through as shading if the rooms were not closed volumes or perhaps you have the rest of the building defined as groups/components and have not defined these as rooms in the Select Groups/Components tools on the IESVE Toolbar?

Not quite sure what you mean here but if you have switched to working in thick walls then you will have to make sure that every wall, floor, ceiling, roof etc is now defined using two parallel surfaces. Then before you identify rooms you should check the IESVE Analysis settings (tools >> IES >> Set VE Rooms Analysis Options) and ensure you have ticked "Thick Walls" and that Maximum Wall Thickness is sufficient for the walls in your model.

The IESVE plug-in for SketchUp does offer advanced tools for SketchUp Pro users including the Build a Thick wall Storey tool which will letyou extrude any simple 2-D floor plan. If you could get hold of SketchUp pro you may find these tools extremely useful.

Keep practising with the plug-in, you may wish to start on some simple geometries until you get used to working in SketchUp and exporting to <VE>. The tool can be very powerful for the experienced user.
