Modelling windcatcher

Post by ahsaaah »

Hi, I am currently trying to model windcatcher for a building, the inner part is devided into four ways, with louver on each side, shall I drawing louvre with each opening slot, then assign every slot as 100% open, or can I assum the whole louvre area as window and assign windows as louver in Macroflo? Your help is really appreciated...

Sounds pretty much as how I'd do it.

I'd use a door usually to avoid solar gain but if it's internal I guess this isn't a problem.

Thank you, Zap, door seems a better choice.
anyway, I am trying to model with PV drived fan in the center of the windcatcher, have you done such analysis? I am think to set the fan in HVAC, but not sure how to incoporate real time solar power info? could you please sharing your method of simulation?

I can see two way to set this, don't know if the software could achieve it:-

1. set the fan fule by electricity generated by PV, I am not sure if we could do it;

2. control the fan by sensors/timer, which one could take account of the solar radiation factors to have fan running at when solar radiation achieved.
