IES-VE User Forum

Hi everyone,

I am just about to start using IES-VE. I've been messing around with the various tutorials etc., to a varying degree of sucess, but now I need to start using it for real.

So, I have asked the architect to provide me with a 3-D model, that I can import into IES, initially for solar shading / sunpath analysis purposes. The architect has asked "specifically, what type of model you you want?".

So, my question is - what should I ask for from him? I am thinking I should ask for "3-D Revit model, in gbXML format, with all rooms enclosed and all surfaces defined". Does that sound correct.

My question may seem a little naive or non-sensical ..... please remember we all have to learn somewhere, at some time..... this is my time and palce for learning.

Good to hear that you have started working on IES<VE>.
Well, talking about models , you can import gbXML , sketchUp models i.e. .skp , .dxf , GEM files(only geometry) into IES<VE>.
Please do not wait for architects for the models.

I will give you few links from where you can download the models.

To add to what Vajindar has already said on this, anyone working in Revit or SketchUp who wants to transfer a model to <VE> via gbXML should take note of the white papers for each product. We have created these guidance documents as there are certain things the modeller has to do that may not fit with normal working practices but will ensure a much higher quality gbXML export.
