I am starting using IES-VE for the first time, and I am really unsure where and how to start. I've taken the approach that the best place to learn to swim is in the deep end..... you can't practice and theorize learnming to swim, you just gotta jump in and do it by trial and error.
So, I have a project, where my deliverables are:
1. Sun path analysis - to visualise how the moves across the site for the year and the impact on our building and adjoining structures. I am assuming simple Suncast modelling will do this?
2. Light penetration on typical floors. I'm thinking FlucsDL for this?
3. Effects of sunshades and overhangs. I am thinking Suncast and FlucsDL for this too?
4. Beneficial daylight, and the ways to maximise same. Again, Suncast & FlucsDL - would Radiance have a role to play here?
5. Glare assessment. This has to be radiance, right? Could I get away with just Suncast & FlucsDL
6. Thermal Analysis and Solar Gain e.g. effects of varying U-values for glass, walls, etc., cooling loads, ETTV values, etc. So I am assuming that once I've got my solar studies as per steps 1-4 done, then I can import it into ApacheLOADS / ApacheSIM?
7. Thermal comfort study. PPD / PMV etc. I am hoping that Suncast / FlucsDL / ApacheLOADS / Apache SIM can handle this for me?
So, my questions are:
(a) Have I identified the ocrrect softwar modules that I will need?
(b) If yes, then can anyone suggest where and how to start with regard to (i) earning how to use the software, and (ii) the order I will need to perform each task in.
Many thanks for any help or siggestions you can give.
Regards,
MAMTL
