I have 20 story building i want to break down the building based on use (3 different uses: retail, educational, office). Is it best to create new templates and apply the templates directly to the floor;new thermal and lighting template (as well as occupancy scheduling). I tried it this way but when i query the selected floors in the building the thermal template is the same throughout the whole building regardless if assigned a floor a different template. What is the correct way to do this?

Hi,
It's up to you how you manage the project but we would always advise to use the room groups tool (you can access this in ModelIt or thermal views etc by clicking the Edit room groups and assign selected rooms to group buttons above the room browser). Set up the groups whatever way you want to access the rooms then you can choose to apply new templates to each room in a group or to select groups of rooms and then use the Edit group attributes button in Apache to edit all rooms simultaneously.
The other benefits to using Groups in this way are that they can make it very easy to check results for groups of rooms in Vista.
I'm not going to go into detailed help on setting up groups now but there is more info on the ModelIT user guide and beyond that it is covered in the IES training sessions as it is encouraged as a "best practise" by all at IES.
