Roof with adjacent property

Post by Richsa »

Hi there,

As a lot of people on here I am new to IES and am trying to simulate a roof, the only trouble is I am trying to do for a semi-detached property. I have managed to build an adjacent building and stick a roof over both of them, but I have no partition in the roof, i.e. the loft travels all the way through over both houses.

Any ideas how to get over this?

Thank you in advanced and merry Christmas,

Rich

Hi,

If the roof you have added extends over both the building you are modelling and the adjacent building then you should be careful as this will be treated as a heated room for the thermal calcs which I don't think you want.

You can easily correct this, use the Partition tool (at building level in ModelIT, select the roof in Plan View and you will see this tool available) or Divide Spaces (select the roof, then go down a level of decomposition to cut in this way). You need to split the roof into two separate rooms. The half on the side of the adjacent building should be changed to also be adjacent building (select it in the rooms browser list and right click then choose Properties to edit its type), the roof of your building can remain defined as a room.

This should be straight forward for you to make these changes.
