Construct DXF

Hey guys,
How does DXF somehow recognise stuff that I deleted and purged from the cad file before converting to DXF and importing into IES? The main problem seems to be with doors when the model creates a circular space to represent the door swing. I go back to the cad file, remove the door and make a wall there instead (delete the door and purge) and when I reload the new file back into IES the door is still there! Any tips?
Also, is it generally better to just trace over the DXF file to avoid any problems? If so, should the extruded shapes always touch, i.e. ignore the partitions in the DXF file and let the rooms meet at the centre line of the partition?
Any help is greatly appreciated
