Hello,
I realise this software is fairly new, also I am finding my way through it, but there seems to be a bug with saving the room word search conventions. 80% of the time it doesn't save properly, and 15% of the time it saves words into the wrong boxes for some reason. Sometimes it will save fine, but then revert back to old saves as well so I am getting words like "office" appearing in Audience/Seating area - Penitentiary and I can't get rid of it!
It seemed to be fine on the first few saves but then I started getting this save bug and now it's really hard to start again. I tried removing some of the group names but it gives me a scipt error if I do that.
Is there a way of starting again from a "fresh" space by space method, also is it advised to not delete any of the room groupings?
Thanks

Re: Room/Zone Group assignment Word searching
Hi,
The Room Group Creator "Word Search Grouping" tool doesn't seem to be working properly at all. I've raised this with the development team although I think the plan is to redo that whole tool at some point as it could be far better. I'd say for now use it if it works (sorry that's a bit of a fuzzy statement
) otherwise you should use the manual method to define and edit Room Grouping Schemes (see the buttons above the Model Browser "Edit room groups" and "Assign selected rooms to room groups").

Re: Room/Zone Group assignment Word searching
Thanks PCully, I've just reached that conclusion myself this morning after being infuriated watching random words pop up in random boxes. I used word search to get as many of the rooms in the right boxes as I could but then had to manually sort the rest out and reassign some of the bulk numbers into the right places.
It's a good idea, it will work, let's just hope it's fixed soon.
Just one quick question, if following this room grouping convention, is it OK to add some room types in? For example, ITC/comms rooms or, shower rooms would be a good idea? I'm just wondering if that will mess things up further down the line.
Cheers

Re: Room/Zone Group assignment Word searching
Yeah, I couldn't even see any pattern to to when or where the words would be jumbled. It is a good tool and as we advise everyone to use Room Groups as much as possible then I think it is one that would be worth making good (the Room Group Creator and Word based grouping hit at what could be possible here and would be a great time saver).
Not quite sure what you mean by the last bit, the Room Grouping Schemes should be entirely up to you and you can add/remove/edit to suit your projects. The only alarm bell ringing is related to the PRM Navigator as it uses the 90.1 Building Area Method and 90.1 Space by Space Method Grouping Schemes in a particular way so you shouldn't edit the Groups in here if you're doing PRM. It's covered in a bit more detail here http://www.iesve.com/downloads/help/VE6 ... gnment.pdf and advises to use the word based grouping but you can manually assign these anyway.
So if you're not working on PRM then feel free to use and edit the Room groups and Schemes in any way that makes managing the project a bit easier for you.

Re: Room/Zone Group assignment Word searching
How can you make the word search return to defaults? I deleted all of the profiles I didn't need for one project, but then when I started a new project, they're still deleted. Maybe I need to re-download the prototype data?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Room/Zone Group assignment Word searching
Hi Darrol,
What do you mean you deleted all the profiles?
I notice you mentioned importing prototype data, if you are using the prototype data then this should import the space thermal templates to your project and in turn when you open the Room Group Creator >> Word search Grouping the Project Thermal Template Scheme will be refreshed to match those templates in BTM (maybe I've misunderstood?).
If you can get me a bit more info on the problem then I'm sure I can find a solution

Re: Room/Zone Group assignment Word searching
I am assigning rooms in the space by space method, there are a series of Space names for example "SPACE: Stairs - active" which I am putting the relevant rooms into, later they will have templates assigned to them. When I did the first model I removed the Space types I didn't need, for example all the penetentiary spaces.
Now I am working on a different building I want to start from scratch with all the space names available, I'll go ahead and delete the ones I don't need again, unfortunately, it's bought in the old saved templates so I don't have the full list to start from. Should I have not deleted the spaces I didn't need? I want to get the full list back again.
Cheers

Re: Room/Zone Group assignment Word searching
I'm still struggling to work out what you deleted that would affect a new project.
Can you just try to post back as here as much detail as you can please? For example what navigator are you using (I assume PRM), after you import the prototype data the first time what did you delete? (was it room groups from the Space by Space method grouping scheme, thermal templates from BTM, room groups from the room group creator etc?)?
I've tried all I can think of and when I load a new project and import prototype data everything is as it should be again so I'll need some more info from you before I can track this down please.

Re: Room/Zone Group assignment Word searching
In the PRM Navigator, go down into the site obstructions and shading tab, then into "room/zone group assignment", then click word search grouping, then click "90.1 Space by space method (IP). The list of group names is what's changed. because there's so many different types of groups, I deleted the ones I didn't need on the last project I was working on, and now I've opened it on this one, they're still missing, it seems to have saved over the default templates list. Also, the room name searches were still in there from the last project. If I open a brand new project, it's all saved in there as well.
Basically I want to get a "fresh" list of room names again, I didn't realise deleting them would change things in all projects!
I hope that explains the problem OK.

Re: Room/Zone Group assignment Word searching
ok, I understand now.
Should be easy to fix, in the new project make sure you have imported the prototype data (this is important) then open the Room Group Creator >> Word Search Grouping dialog again and click the "Extract" button. This should refresh any of the defaults you have edited and you'll find the Space by Space method Scheme now has the complete set of Group options.
