Hi,
I want to simulate a room with windows opening onto an open balcony(which is shaded with shutters at midday).
Should I build the balcony as a separate adjacent room with huge permanently open windows? or use the balcony option in the window construction database on the room?
I am interested in the impact on internal temperatures.
Both have very varied results so I dont know which one is more realistic or how else to model a shaded balcony.

Dear Rohini,
You can build a balcony with local shades.
I don't think there is a need to create adjacent room with large permanent openings.
You can assign the construction properties to the window usign 'Construction Database Manager'.
These local shades does impact in Thermal calculation but for that you need to run 'Solar shading calculation' first & then link this result to ApacheSim calculation.

You can see the difference between results when you run ApacheSim with & without SunCast link.

Thank you.. the problem is that I want to simulate a balcony which has blinds drawn at midday. (So there will be a shaded air pocket between the balcony blinds and the window.) This cant be done in the constructions 'balcony' section. would appreciate any suggestions.
