Hi,

I wanted to know if there's a way to replace the model of the .mit archive.

I'm asking that because I've exported my building's model from Google Sketchup to IES but now I've changed somethings in the model and I don't know how to replace the oldest by the most actual.

I could not understand your question correctly.

I am guessing that , you want to chage the geometry only not the other data (templates , profiles etc. etc.)

You can use GEM file for this purpose , there is an action in 'ModelIT >> Export/Import to GEM' , which could resolve your problem.

This is exaclty what I wanted to do, change only the geometry. I have already tried to import the GEM file but I'm not sure it works with the files from Sketchup 8. Do you have any information about it?

here's what Vajindar was suggesting

1. Start with SketchUp file
2. export that to VE (called model1.mit or whatever)
3. work on VE project model1 e.g. editing thermal templates, assigned Constructions etc
4. Now want to modify geometry so return to SketchUp.
** at this stage I'd suggest you should take a copy of the VE project model1 as exporting from SketchUp again will completely overwrite what you already have, use VE and do a save As to rename**
5. So back in SketchUp modify the geometry and export in the usual way, we'll call the new VE project model2
6. In VE open model2 and export geometry as a GEM file
7. Now open model1 in VE and delete the siting geometry
8. Import the GEM file to model1 - now you have the VE project with templates etc defined and the new geometry. This still leaves you the task of re-assigning all the data to the new geometry but hopefully this won't take you too long (use room groups if possible). For this reason I'd suggest make sure you are fairly happy with the geometry design before going into detailed model setup.

Hello everybody,
I have the same problem, but with me the procedure already described doesn't work...I mean if I update a new geometry (GEM) in a given VE file, all the building component characterizations from that file are discarded.
It seems to be impossible to replace a new geometry from Sketch. while keeping the surfaces caracterization also by using: merge model data.

Can you please help me?

I'm not following you... can you not simply re-apply the fabric and templates etc once you have brought in your GEM file?
Can you describe what's happening a little more?
