Hello

I've had some problems concerning the templates files when importing a model from Revit Architecture 2012.
I opening a new IES-VE file (IES-VE Pro v. 6.4.0.6) and assign my own templates for thermal conditions and constructions via building template manager.
I importing my file (assigning my own templates for thermal conditions and constructions). No errors occur.
When I then open my Template manager again, IES has loaded ALL the standard templates (from the four categories; Commercial, Domestic, Educational and Medical) and deleted the ones I imported (and assigned) during the import phase.
Now I have a huge list of templates that I don't want to use and none of my own.

Is there any way to work around IES importing all the standard templates when importing a model from Revit? (I've tried moving the template files from the installation folder with no luck).

Hi Rusten,

This is a feature of the import from Revit, it will bring in the standard ASHRAE templates used by the plug-ins and replace the existing templates in the project. There are some things you can do to get around this

1. Create all your custom templates in another project
2. export the geometry from your Revit import project as a GEM file (you can do this in ModelIT)
3. In the project containing the custom templates import the GEM
4. Assign your own templates to the model

I think that is the safest and easiest way to achieve what you want.

I've tried your suggestion and it works.
However it seems like alot of work for importing the file.
Is there no way to force the .gbxml file to not include or assign standard ASHRAE-templates?
I'm having a hard time seeing the benefit of having all the templates in one model.

There's no way to avoid this, it's really meant to Support users of the VE-Ware/Toolkits who want to model outside VE then import and be in a position to run early stage analyses immediately without learning VE-pro.

Obviously for the more advanced user it has its drawbacks though.

Just beware that if you choose to then go back to Revit to make modifications to the geometry and reimport it will overwrite what you already have so you have to take care with that too. I'm not sure what your workflow looks like but I usually advise to try use the import from Revit or SketchUp as a one time process when the design is nearly complete and then do the work once in VE. If you have ModelIt this would let you make tweaks and edits to the geometry in the VE model.

I always create view templates by duplicating the existing view template and make necessary modifications.
