Exporting model (gbxml)

Post by theresa_5566 »

I am trying to use another Building Energy Analysis (EnergyPlus) but I don't want to re-build my model again. I have already done the model construction in IES using ModelIt. I would like to know how can I export my model from IES in gbxml format if it is possible. It only has the import function. Thanks!!!

Hi,

VE can only import gbXML, there is no export (ssh but IES don't really want to facilitate people moving away from VE to other packages ;) )

Is there any way I can use my model in IES for EnergyPlus?

No sorry I don't think there is, you'd need to create it from scratch in EnergyPlus

Actually, seems like I'm able to transfer my model from IES to Google Sketch by exporting it as stl file and then installing a plug in by Jum foltz into energy plus. However some problems with making it an energy space but still trying have a hack at it. Thanks anyway!

I think the problem is the triangulation inherent in STL.
IES has an ASCII geometry output available - the GEM format.
You could write a script to convert that GEM file into an EnergyPlus format I suppose?
