Does anyone have a view on how IES and PHPP softawe compare and what parameters drive any differences in the results?

Seen a couple of discussions about this online and the impression I'm getting is that PHPP is a pretty impressive piece of work BUT... it's not a proper dynamic simulation. Not that that is a problem - horses for courses etc... has anyone on the forum actually used it?

I haven't seen this before, sounds an interesting piece of software although the website gives an air that it's still quite an academic bit of kit and my experience this usually means interface and that side of things aren't great to get to grips with.

Would be interested to hear of anyones experiences with this though - Johann have you used it?

From what i have heard about it, and what you can read from some of the things on their webpage, it is more like a tool in the earlier design faces. Think this update from their page tells enough:

The Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) is a spreadsheet based design tool aimed at architects and designers to assist the design of Passivhaus standard.

The new calculations introduced into PHPP 2007, developed within the context of Passive-On are:

- Solar loads through opaque building elements
- Night ventilation
- Monthly method for cooling
- Overheating frequency
- Peak cooling load
- Latent load
