Inner Shutters

I'm doing a PhD research about energy efficiency in traditional Portuguese buildings. I'm using VE Pro for thermal simulation in several case studies. This buildings use inner wood shutters and I'm having difficulty in their modelling. I attached a cad drawing for illustration. In magenta is the external door leading to balcony. In blue is the wood inner shutter. How should I model this situation? Should I create a room between the shutter and the external door? Due to the fact that those elements are all in the external wall thickness should I also create another room space between the shutter and the inner room?

Hi Joaquim,

I think an easier way for you to get the effect you are looking for here would be to define the internal shading devices in Constructions Database, you can do this on any Glazed Construction and define internal shades here to represent the effects of the shutters rather than trying to draw directly in the model.

If you did decide to draw the space as a void then you'd have the option of drawing the inner surface as a window or a door but not both, window again you could possibly use the CDB constructions shading device inputs to model times when the shutter was open/closed.

More info available from the CDB user guide that you can access via the Help menu in VE.
