Hi,

What exactly is 'Enhanced Natural Ventilation'? I can't seem to find an explanation anywhere.

I imagine it is where the windows are opened by automatic actuators triggered from temperature / CO2 sensors.

I don't have a definition for this but from a few Google searches this seems to be a very commonly used term and I wonder if it has a specific meaning or is just used to refer to any strategy that makes good use of natural ventilation be it encouraging more air flow through openings or targeting the times when it is utilised to have greatest impact...

I'm not sure though, maybe one of our other users will have some experience or can tell us when they use this term

I've also struggled to find a formal definition of it, but my understanding is that enhanced natural ventilation is when the vent system is being operated under some kind of automatic CO2 control.

An example of this would be a louvre or window based system that automatically adjusts the amount of natural ventilation being provided in order to always try an deliver optimum indoor air quality and temperature.

Standard natural ventilation would be via manually openable windows.

Has there since been any clarification on this?

As far as i can tell the term enhanced natural ventilation still goes undefined.

If it is as previously postulated, would the traffic light indicator with manual window control you often see in new classrooms count under this? or would it purely apply to automatically controlled windows?

As an aside to this, am i correct in thinking this enhanced ventilation wouldn't apply to PIR/light controlled toilet extract fans? My assumption was as this is by and far the normal approach, no benefit over the notional would be given for this.
