Heating/Cooling Loads

Post by Arch_boston »

Hi,

Since the project that I am modeling is in the early phase of the design process, I created the geometry in ModelIT, assigned construction materials and Ashrae thermal templates to the model.

1. I don't have a defined occupancy profile from the client...When I import ASHRAE templates and assign to the spaces, does the program use the default occupancy profile that's attached within the 90.1 templates..or Do I still need to do something with the occupancy profile?

2. I also want to find the heating and cooling loads of my model. I used ApacheSim. (main system as HVAC system) Should I run ASHRAE Load or ApacheSim Dynamic Simulation? After the simulation, which parameter is related to heating and cooling load of the model?
(for example; I tried ApacheSim Dyn Sim..When I click heating/cooling report, under building systems energy, are these monthly results?
And when I select chillers and boilers load as variables, are these hourly results?)

If someone help me, I will appreciate that.
Thanks!

Hi,

Looks like this question is as popular as Mitt Romney's policies...

I know you won't be checking this for responses now and I'm not familiar with the ASHRAE stuff being UK based but A couple of general points.

1) the occupancies will be contained within the templates so if they are applied to the spaces you should be good to go.
Open the tabular edit window to check the occupancy schedule for the rooms - you'll see soon enough if it's what you expect.
2) You want to be running the ASHRAE Loads module rather than the dynamic sim for your loads calc. "Room & Apache System Loads" I'd wager.
