Hi,

I am working on a project currrently where the southern facade is made-up of 100% windows. Each window section comprises of glazed panels and opaque panels in a randomly designed pattern. There is no detail available to draw in each opaque panel and each glazed panel that's contained within each window section. The information that I DO have is that the total percentage of the facade that is opaqe is 40%.

If i was to set the frame factor on each window at 40%, this would give me an overall opaqe-ness of 40% on the full facade. Would IES compute the same way and would the Solar Gains be reduced or am I way off?

Hi Collie,

In all honesty I would be tempted to draw a random pattern of shading to account for the 40% of opaque panels. While the pattern might not match what the architect has planned with no guidance you are at least approaching the concept he/she has envisaged.
Using the Frame factor is for Apache only and no visuals will represent this and any daylighting wouldn't know about it either whereas the opaque shades are accounted for by all applicable modules.
