Hi,

I am currently working on a project to model an existing building, I am working from architects CAD plans to build this. I am unsure how to make the wall thickness the same on the model as it is on the printed CAD drawings. I have tried using inner volumes but cannot figure out how to change the thickness of the wall on this. What is the best way to go about doing this?

Hi Katie,

I think most users tend to ignore the wall thicknesses and just model as single line (you take a small hit on getting floor areas spot on but that's fairly negligible in the long run). However as you have already stated you do have the inner volumes option to directly model the thicknesses.

There's plenty on this forum and in the user guides about inner volume but the thickness is controlled by the thickness of the Constructions you have assigned to your surfaces

You might say it barely changes anything, but trust me, it can be a hell to get a larger plan to fit correctly if you dont use inner volumes. If you have a lot of smaller rooms combined with a larger room, either the smaller rooms become larger or the large room will be a lot smaller. I think inner volumes also helps a lot making sure the different floor plans are perfectly on top of eachother if you are modeling a multiple storey building.

I have just gotten used to measure in the middle of each inner wall, and i think its a lot faster than just modeling the inner lines, because you dont have to spend time stretching the other rooms to make it fit.
