BREEAM (2008) HEA 10 Credit

Post by RossThompson87 »

BREEAM Offices 2008 has the following requirements for justifying HEA10 credit.
The modelling demonstrates that the building design and services strategy can deliver thermal
comfort levels in occupied spaces in accordance with the criteria set out in CIBSE Guide A
Environmental Design; in particular that internal winter and summer temperature ranges will be in
line with the recommended comfort criteria in table 1.5 of the Guide.
The summertime overheating aspect of this is obvious. But I was just wandering how people approach the modeling for the winter conditions.

By default, IES assumes infinite heating plant capacity. Should radiator sizes etc. be included in the model to evaluate the internal temperatures in winter?

What measures should be taken to process the results to justify the credit?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Ross,

You might want to investigate the VE Navigator for BREEAM. It covers BREEAM 2008 just now and HEA10 is included. It will automate a lot of the set up and results analysis so makes it a bit easier.

For winter yes I guess you are assessing the comfort during the unconditioned times so you would either need to limit the plant or apply setpoint schedules as appropriate (both can be done in Room Data). Vista will then allow you to view Comfort parameters and room air temps but to get the analysis during occupied hours we generally advise to export to Excel for example so you can process the data a bit before reporting it.

Yes, you should limit the heat output of each room using the options under the 'System' tab and produce a table of results demonstrating that during the occupied period the temperatures never fall below the minimum acceptable temps in Guide A.

Rather than working out heating capacity limits for each room I usually just apply a blanket W/m² across all heated areas. It's much quicker and in my view, accurate enough for BREEAM purposes.

set MET, CLO, Speed for PMV

Post by MeDBeDb »

Hi!
Where can I set MET, CLO, Speed for PMV analisys in HEA10?
I do the analisys, but in MET, CLO tabel there are 0 value.

This could be what you're after, it's within the Vista module when looking at the results.

You have to do it AFTER you run the model but BEFORE you look at the results and you have to do it EVERY time you close and reopen vista.

Sorry, can't help you there. I have never used the automatic report modules because I prefer to have total control over what I'm reporting on.
