I have a situation where I'm trying to merge multiple Revit models together in one IES file. I've been using each Revit model (impoted to IES) for daylighting analysis, but now I need to combine them so I can do energy analysis since the group of buildings runs off the same central plant.
What is the best way to combine these files? Should I link them all in to one Revit model and then import to IES? Can I combine multiple IES files together (not as obstruction files, but as rooms/spaces)?
Please help! Thanks.
merge models
Re: merge models
If you wish to bring geometry from one model into another, you can use import/export gem file from the ModelIT menu to export the geometry from the project to a .gem file and then go to the other project and select import gem. You would then need to reassign any thermal templates/constructions though, but you can import this data from the building template manager, import template and browse to the other project. Bringing in the thermal templates will also bring in the constructions. Just be careful if you have a lot though as you can easily exceed the 600 opaque elements (constructions) limit. When importing the gem, also be careful that the geometry is not going to clash with the existing model. If necessary, move the model further away before importing the gem file.
Re: merge models
Thank you for the reply. I understand that I can import geometry, but I want to import the room/space information so I can run thermal analysis on multiple buildings at once. Is there a way to do that if I already have separate IES files created? I would think that there would be an obvious solution to this...maybe? If not, I guess that means I need to link my individual Revit models into one and then import into IES, so all of my buildings are in one file. Any other comments/suggestions on this?
