Insulate roof in summer doesn't give good results in VE

Post by david373348 »

Hi all

I have a project where I need to model a maintenance hangar,

In this project we are evaluating the relevance of insulate the roof to improve the confort level in summer. The hangar has no air conditioned system but we use natural ventilation which seems to work well.

The problems comes when we try to put some insulating material to the actual roof (metal sheet of 2 cms). Unlike one might expect the temperature in the hangar increases, also the roof temperature.

This is to soome extent logic, and I know it depends of the insulant type and thickness. But we agree (I think) that at least one insulation with les of 2cm to the actual roof should give an improvement in at least roof or air temperature.

I have tried several configurations without success, always the non-insulated model is better than the model with roof insulation.

Is there's a way I can represent the pertinence of insulate roof in summer? or maybe I suppose to say to the architect that non insulate the roof is the better option?

Best regards,

David Garcia

I have the reponse of this,

In fact it was a missconception that starts in the fact that metal sheets in hangar are very very thin
