Running ApacheSim on specific zones only

Post by bexward »

Hi, I'm relatively new to VE and ApacheSim, but have inherited a large model, for which I am only interested in the results for specific rooms. I know I can request detailed output for specified rooms only, but can anyone tell me whether it is possible to just run ApacheSim for those selected rooms, or a small related area of the building, or whether to do this it would be necessary to create stand-alone smaller models?

Hi,

You can set the rooms you are not interested in to an inactive layer (assign to layer 2 in ModelIT then make this layer inactive). There should be some other posts on here related to doing this. It sets the adjacency between activate and inactive rooms to be adiabatic so they aren't totally excluded but it means your analysis can be concentrated on the rooms you are interested in. I'd normally suggest keeping at least the immediately surrounding rooms active as well to increase accuracy but if it's a multi-storey building then you can probably remove a few levels worth from the simulation and reduce the sim time.
