room group/schmes confusion

Post by macpavee »

I am doing something dumb again.

when i create room groups and schemes, all my rooms automatically jump into the group i have just created and i cant get them out or reassign them elsewhere. even if i make sure that the room are not only un-selected but invisible, as soon as i select one...oh yeah, they all jump in with him.

i have wasted too long scratching on this and i have followed the 'brilliant' user guides and any other forum advise i can find.
i just cant find my obvious mistake.

please help

That sounds quite odd.

Are you sure you're not confusing the "Edit room groups" and "Assign selected room to room to groups" buttons?

Each time you create a new group scheme (from inside the "Edit room groups" button) all the rooms will default to being in the last room group created. However, you can then use the "Assign selected room to room to groups" to move individual rooms between those groups (assuming you have more than one).

I suspect that if I watch a 60 second clip of what you are doing that I'd be able to spot the problem but it's difficult without seeing it first hand.

Thanks again CP

so now i have several schemes each with a few room groups. Some of the groups have only the rooms i want there (as they were not created last) whilst the last created group in each scheme contains all the rest of the rooms. most of which i dont want in that particular group.

must each scheme contain all the model's rooms between the groups of that scheme? -admittedly i am not working on conventional models so may have missed the usual reason for grouping.

if not, how do i get the surplus rooms out and leave them only in the group(s) i want them in. there seems to be no obvious way to do this.

At times I too have had the hyperactive room syndrome. HRS for us in the know. :ugeek: It is a varied yet extensively unknown condition that plagues smaller households up to entire building complexes. :!:
The only known way to reduce the jitter is to make the room want to be better and less jittery, this is sometimes accomplished by threatening the afflictee with a prior archived portrait of the room before the syndrome set in. :geek:

Ie try from a save before the issue started. 8-)

You should simply be able to select the rooms you want en mass and then assign them to any group at any time. Holding Ctrl will allow multiple selections to be made.

One tip I would give is that, when you are in room group mode, the interface has a tendency to "hold on" to the previously selected room when you click on another one which means you end up putting rooms into groups you did not intend leading to the "hyperactive room syndrome" marc mentioned. To avoid this, just click in a blank spot away from your building in model space to deselect everything before moving to the next rooms. Be vigilant to do this after each assignation.

It takes a little practice but eventually it will become second nature.

ok
so it's 'careful as she goes'.

i'm gobsmacked that there is no way to remove a room from a previously assigned group. but i guess thats just my fumbling fingers fault.

thanks a lot for the pointers though

That's not exactly what I was driving at. It's only the selection interface which is a bit ropey if you aren't paying attention. Once a room has been assigned to a group it should be perfectly possible to move it to a different group as often as you wish.

Sometimes the written word isn't the best medium to convey information. I think this is one of those times where a face to face talk at the computer for 1 minute would convey more than 10 pages of forum posts.
