Hello
I am modelling a house with a pitched roof that has extruded windows much like in the linked pictures below, creating an internal space with a complex geometry. I can only come up with a single way of doing it in MODELIT - create a prism shaped room from the side that intersects with the actual room, and set all the internal bits as holes to make the spaces function as a single one. The pyramid tool isnt of much help as the top spine is always at an angle when I need it to be horizontal.
I would love to hear any opinions on this as I couldnt find anything relevant. Maybe there is an easier way of doing this?

Re: how to model an extruded roof window?
Something like this perhaps?

Draw the "protrusion" in elevation view as a polygonal prism, then intersect it with the main roof until it is positioned correctly (switch off intersection checks for this bit) and then slice the protrusion using the slope of the roof to define the cutting plane and delete the bit that's left inside the roof. Stick holes in as required and you're good to go.

Re: how to model an extruded roof window?
Thank you very much for the answer, exactly what I need.
Rookie question incoming - how do I slice off the part that intersects into the building? Using the connect spaces tool only lets me trim the external bit. I have never been able to find a slicing tool in ies.
Cheers!

Double click on the room to go into detail view (" down a level" as some call it) and then click on the drop down list at the top which normally defaults to "Surface" and change it to "Edit". The default tab is the divide space tool which will allow you to slice whatever you like. Check the ModelIT help file for further details on how to use this tool.

The problem is solved. Many thanks Complex!

Nice on complex. I seem to have done it in quite a roundabout way!
