Overheating calcs - impact of shading

Post by Shell »

Hi,

I'm trying to carry out overheating calcs in ApacheSIM but am not having much luck in gettting it to take into account the impact of external shading (in this instance a 3m wide canopy providing shade to large South facing windows).

I have tried drawing in and allcoating as local shade and adjacent building but it didn't make any difference. I have also tried adding it in the construction details as a 3m overhang, but again this hasn't made any difference to the solar gains or resulting overheating.

Is the suncast module required in order for it to take external shading into account?

Any clues / help much appreciated,

Thanks

Yes, for the effects of the local shade to be considered Suncast is required. Also, each time you modify the geometry you will need to re-run the solar shading calculation in Suncast.
