Hi,

I am just becoming familiar with the IES VE trial. We do mostly residential single and double story buildings with natural ventilation and minimal or no mechanical HVAC. I am trying to work out which modules I may need.

We're not sure what our budget is yet.

Clearly I will need ModelIT and ApacheSim. But from what I've read, MacroFlo and SunCast may also be important

Would I be able to get away with just ModelIT and ApacheSim for now, or will I need MacroFlo and/or SunCast and/or any of the other modules .

Down the line we may get a life cycle cost analysis tool and lighting as well , but these are not the most important for us atm.


Anyone doing similar sort of buildings, it would be great to have your input

Hi Jack,

We do lots of ventilation etc you will need the following:

ModelIT to make your building
Suncast to run any simulations
Apache to run the simulations
MacroFlo to enable natural ventilation
Vista to view your results

With that setup you can do the basic work you require.

LIfecycle analysis can be done manually and the lighting with dimming is the Number 1 recommendation we give to energy conscious homeowners.

Its a bit of a chunk to bite off but that is what you need to do building simulations and energy analysis.
