Has anyone worked out how to use the new Parametric Batch Processor feature in vers 2013?

There doesn't appear to be any documentation for it, the links to the support pages within the Navigator itself are not working, and I can't work out what the "queue (APR file)" is.

Anyone? Please?!

If you go into Apache and hit the ApacheSim button, there's a new option at the bottom of the window to launch into the new parametric batch stuff. It's pretty self explanatory from there.

it seems this thread has been dormant and I couldn't find other themes about the parametric batch processor.
Unfortunately IES doesn't provide guides about this and I'm a bit lost - especially after it worked for 32 simulations and it failed for the following 32 without telling me why. Hence my question:

- Orientation doesn't seem to be a variable anymore, is that correct? Or am I not seeing it for some particular reason?
- Is it possible to set the Apache/Parametric batch in a way that Sun Shading Calculations are automatically done before the simulation? I've seen something related to this in the Apache simulation settings but I couldn't figure out if and how it can be linked to the PBR.

Any help in this respect would be immensely appreciated.

Hi,

The Parametric Batch Processor should give feedback regarding simulations that ran or failed if there was an Apache reason for the problem but if the process was interrupted or disrupted by an external reason then it may not be possible to feed back on that.

Orientation was an option last I checked although seems to be having a problem with entering the range which I have asked the development team to take a look at for me.

There is no option to have the SunCast shading calculations automatically run e.g. for different orientations but a lot of the options you might run would be able to use one shading file which is accurate for the geometry so it is still useful without this option. we have targeted the next iteration of the Parametric Batch Processor to give an option to include the solar shading calculations for different options where required.

This is a tool that is free and will go through many improvements to get to where we want it to be so please do feel free to send any comments you have to feedback@iesve.com

Orientation is not an option unfortunately anymore.
And I do understand your point about the SunCast shading calculation.

However, I have one question about a dummy way of doing it:
- run SunCast shading calculation
- add the model to queue
- rotate the model
- run SunCast shading calculation for the new orientation
- add the model to queue
and so on.

My question is: would the PBP use the correct shading calculation in this way? In other words, when I add the model to queue after having run the SunCast shading calculation, does the queue file link somehow to those calculations?

Hi,

No I don't believe it will archive the shading fie at the point you add to queue (although would have been nice if it did), it will just look at the simulation settings i.e. is SunCast link ticked or not but come simulation time it will look for the one shading file that is present in the SunCast folder.

Orientation should still be an option, something may have gone wrong on the dialog and if so we'll get that fixed asap

Hi there,
I'm trying to find an efficient way of simulating 1944 possible combination of variables (i.e. horizontal louvres dimensions, glazing percentage, glazing and glass types, building orientation, angle of inclination of the louvres etc.). None of those variables are within the recent Element tool. I was thinking of batch processing but couldn't find any tutorial about it. Is there a way of doing it?
Following this thread here, I was thinking of working out glazing types, glass types and orientation (2X3X3=18 possibilities) in Parametric Batch Processor then manually model 108 models separately and run the 18 batch file for each one. Theoretically it sounds possible but in real life, I do not know how exactly.
Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Similarly, this is something I need to do, modelling different glazing and shading to assess how the building would be affected.

I'm suprised that this had not been tackled yet considering it was meant to go in the next iteration back in 2015!
