Hey,

I'm new to VE and am wanting to control my external window blinds to lower if radiation>300W/sqm and raise if radiation<200W/sqm.

I set the radiation to lower device at 300 and the radiation to raise at 200 but when looking at the results of my solar gain, I don't notice any distinct signs that the blind is lowering at any point (I thought I would see a sudden drop in gain?). Have I set the values correctly?

Also, what is meant by the fraction of daylight hours closed? This seems to contradict the blind operating depending on incident radiation by setting a percentage of daylight hours closed.

This is fairly late and you have probably answered this by now but have you set the percentage profile group, or is set to off continuously?

Dial down to surface level and see what the solar radiation is. It may not reach the figures you detail. Hence it not working.

Yes if troubleshooting this then my advice is to run a case with the blinds not in operation and another with your controls then compare solar gain in the room.

For calibration with the model then switch on the surface outputs and you can see solar radiation and compare this to your control limits.

The "fraction of daylight hours closed" is in the little Part L1 Building Regulations section and is a direct input for the Residential calculations, majority of users will be able to ignore this input as it relates to the simpler calcs performed by SAP. Modern standards for L2 SAP 2009 onwards etc are performed by our UK Dwellings link to JPA Designer and wouldn't pick this setting up.
