EPC Calculations

Post by pm165 »

Hi I am a student,

I was wondering how to perform an EPC on IES? I just need to know the required steps in producing an EPC for Scotland after i built the model.

Hi Phil.

Very basic reply here as there is a lot involved, but to get you started... I'd also recommend reading the VE Compliance user guides which can be found by selecting Help>User Guides in the software.

-Create Geometry in ModelIT
-Run a scan on the geometry to check it is suitable for a thermal analysis. Do this by selecting Settings>Model>Intersections & Surfaces in ModelIT.
-If no problems are reported then go to VE Compliance. (create a backup now by selecting - File>Archive>Current Project).
-Select SBEM-EPC (level 3 or 4) or ApacheSim-EPC (level 5)
-Set Location in ApLocate
-Set Building Type and if you are using SBEM-EPC select the correct location.
-Create constructions in Apache Constructions Database
-Assign the constructions using Assign Constructions. (create a backup after this step by selecting File>Archive>Current Project).
-Create Systems in Apache Systems
-Open Building Template manager or Tabular BTM (< my preferred method) and create your thermal templates. Set the NCM Building Type and Activity for each template.
-Assign your thermal templates to the correct rooms (Tabular room data is the best method for doing this).
-Use Tabular Room Data to enter any room specific data (e.g Lighting installed power densities, room level SFP's)
-Save the project and create a final backup.
-Select "Generate EPC" and the calculation will run.
-If successful, EPCGen will launch at the end and create the EPC. If you do not have a valid assessor number then you will not get the xml file required for lodgement. Same goes if you are not connected to the internet or have a firewall blocking access.
