Changing the emissivity of a roof

Post by tkc »

how do I go about changing the emissivity of a roof and setting it for my model?

I know that I have to edit it under construction but how do I know which template is the model which I have drawn using?

In addition, there is a tab for roof and another for ceiling. I am editing based on the tutorial model so which tab should I be editing on? the roof or the ceiling?

I think the surface elements are defined in the user guides but ceiling is internal (i.e. between rooms) and roof is external. To see the assigned Constrcutions there are tools in the Constructions Database to see where a particular Construction is assigned, they are highlighted green to show they are in use and you can also go into the Assign Constructions to see what is assigned.

Oh and the INput Data Visualisation tool in Apache gives a way to colour base don assigned constructions if you want it in a nice Model Viewer ll 3D display.

Lots of options...

I know you are working through the tutorials etc but have you considered taking even some basic training from IES? It would really speed up your learning to a point where you can really use the software to analyse your models.

Thanks Phil for the suggestion. But the price of training is too steep for me to afford as a student as they cant be claim.

As you mentioned ceiling is for internal while roof is for external. When I add additional layers above the base model of my room, the ceiling component of my initial model becomes an internal ceiling. Whereas the upper most room which I added on has its ceiling turned into a roof.

Anyways that I can change the setting such that I can edit the ceiling of my base model to become a roof instead of a ceiling?

In addition, I have e-mail your contact team + posted in the apachesim thread of the simulation I done. Hopefully you guys will be able to respond to it soon. thanks!

the type (ceiling or roof) is based on if it has na adjacent room or external air. You can't override that.

You can however assign your roof construction to a ceiling or vice versa, to do this you just need to take the Construction (or a copy of it) and change its type.
