INTERMEDIATE TIMBER FLOOR

Hello,

I would receive your insights about an intermediate ceiling.
The intermediate ceiling I'm modeling is made (from the top) by timber flooring (2cm), air cavity (30cm) and plaster boards (2cm).
The problem is: although there is an air cavity, there are also wooden beams with different distances between them. If I model only the following layers: timber flooring, air cavity and plaster boards I'm not taking into account the U value of the wooden beams. I know this is the problem of having punctual instead of distributed materials...see the image in the link in order to understand the ceiling typology I'm talking about!

Hi,

The beams are in effect thermal bridges through the construction.

By default IES allows a 10% factor on top of your U-value for thermal bridging.

This is set by the the 'thermal bridging coefficient'. If you wanted to work this out it should be possible with some dedicated U-value calculation software like builddesk. You can then take it off the default and add your own value.

I think BR443 will also contain some details if you wanted to work it out by hand.
