Hi ,
I am writing to clarify if DSM calculation can be used for level 3 and 4 projects ,
I am aware that level 5 project should be carried on via DSM tool, however I have not come across any type information to prevent use of DSM tool for other project complexity level , the main purpose of using DSM for this complexity level of projects is to minimize building’s carbon and energy consumption status by using advance feature of DSM tool ( such as more realistic weather data; inclusion of shading bodies, evaluating results from vista variable etc..)
I assume this can simply be done by defining project complexity ( such as level 4) in the software so project will still be lodged in as level 4 but the calculation can still be performed by DSM )
I found the use and DSM and features attached this tool is more beneficial and in most of the case ,may result in fewer of compliance and better EPC rating , whereas the SBEM is more simplified and restrict most of the options that are allowed by DSM
I would be appreciated if you can advise me on this matter
Regards

Hi Blackeagle
Have a read of this (but make sure you read the whole thing because differing opinions crop up initially and a kind of consensus is eventually reached):

In short, yes you can use DSM for level 3 and 4 but with a few conditions.
1) If submitting using DSM, then the level 5 lodgement fee of £250 will apply even if the project is only level 3/4.
2) Even though the project is level 3/4 you need to set the project complexity to level 5 for displayed on the EPC so that CIBSE know to charge you the extra money
If you are with some other accrediting body then this rule may differ somewhat.

Re: DSM calcualtion for Level3&4 projects
Thank you Complex potential for taking time and responding to my enquiry
Yes you seem to be doing the right thing , I just want to add the following after receiving confirmation from CIBSE EPC accreditation , they also confirmed that you can lodge EPC using DSM calculation for level 3or4 projects as long as You are accredited to carry out level 3,4 and 5 assessment , so I guess if you can agree with the client by considering the cost implication , you can lodge it ( always level 5 regardless if the complexity is 4 or 3) via this route however those who are only accediated for level 3 and 4 , they can not use DSM and can not lodge it via this route, they will need to use SBEM
Once again, thank you for your cooperation
