Importing from an as-buit model

We are working on our first project using VE Pro, which is a renovation of an existing building. All rooms were defined to extend to bounding elements, such as walls, floor slabs and roofs. Since the building was gutted, we added rooms to represent remaining core areas (such as elevators, stairs and restrooms) and interior/exterior envelope areas on each floor for a preliminary analysis. It's important to now that the rooms were defined to the "Existing" phase.

We then defined an MEP model, using the existing architectural model as a linked background, with each level copy/monitored to defined floor levels in the MEP model. Spaces were added based on the existing rooms, and zones were defined for the spaces.

When we try to use the Revit export tool (import model), we get an error message stating that no rooms are found. I'm not sure if the phase setting is the issue, but I'd love for someone to take a shot at this. We can get an exported gbXML, but the model has a few issues as well.

Thanks -

Hi,

In addition to Guidance resources posted by Zap there (note one of these is currently being updated and so is offline until the job is done) then I think you just need ot look at the Revit export here, Autodesk shoudl be able to advise on this?

Basically VE will only read in whatever Rooms (Arch) or Spaces (MEP) have been exported to the gbXML file from Revit. Revit prompts you when none are found, I think you probably are close to the mark with the phases since you mention them and you had said you placed both rooms and Spaces (as well as Zones which should come through to VE form the gbXML as room groups).

Try changing the phase and export again, I'd also make sure that the Room Area and Volume computations are switched to calculate volumes (it's in the guidance document linked by Zap, presumably he's had this "standard response" in the past already :D )
