VE-Cloud

Post by PCully »

A quick promotion here...

IES has started to develop cloud based solutions for the more time intensive calculations that are performed in VE and the first service to be offered is SunCast solar shading calculations.

Remember you can run SunCast as of VE 2013 FP 2 with parallel process support so for every licence you have for SunCast an extra 4 cores on your machine can be utilised in the calculations. That's great but now you can go even further and run them on VE-Cloud and complete the calcs in a fraction of the time compared to a standard desktop.

I've seen some great results compared to my own 4 core laptop and although there is a fee (it's based on a credit purchase system) it's well worth if you want to get on to the Apache simulations immediately or if you have multiple options to simulate.

There's much more to follow in terms of speeding up the calculations for other parts of VE (Apache simulations, Radiance etc) but as a first trial we've been very pleased with the results of this project and it's ready for use now.

Details are provided on the IES website http://www.iesve.com/software/cloud-solutions/ve-cloud

To run Suncast on more than one core, do you need more than one licence?

i.e. to run on four cores you need four Suncast licences?

Phil may correct me here but as far as I know, for need one licence for every four cores. If you have an 8 core machine then you would need 2 Suncast licences free to use all 8 cores.
